Player Membership Terms of Service:
As with all things, membership in the Dystopia Rising LARP Network is governed by certain rules. These rules (the “Dystopia Rising LARP Network Conduct Guide”), maintained and enforced exclusively by the Dystopia Rising Network, must be adhered to by all players. It is your responsibility to know, understand and abide by this Dystopia Rising LARP Network Conduct Guide. The following rules are not meant to be exhaustive, and the Dystopia Rising Network reserves the right to determine which conduct it considers to be outside the spirit of the Network and to take such disciplinary measures as it sees fit up to and including termination of network membership and refusal of admittance to events. The Dystopia Rising Network reserves the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time.
As members of the Dystopia Rising LARP Network, we agree to abide by the following guidelines when attending Dystopia Rising LARP Network events, or, using communication mediums provided for the Dystopia Rising LARP Network.
As a general concept, we as an organized group of people need to agree to act with honesty, maturity, understanding, and compassion towards fellow Network members. When dealing with matters of the Network we each agree to embody the spirit of positive community, equality, kindness, and respect.
The spirit of community, role playing, and member inclusiveness are the most important focuses that we can have. We will strive to ensure that our community is a safer space, where all people are welcome. We will strive to not only not tolerate harassment and discrimination but actively seek to remove it from our community. We will look to communicate with one another, instead of judging one another, with the hopes of building a higher standard of community overall.
We will adhere to all applicable laws when involved in the Dystopia Rising Network. The safety of our members and the law always takes precedence over all other rules. Actions during Network functions that break the law may be grounds for disciplinary action as well as appropriate legal action.
We understand that this is just a game, and that real world responsibility takes a higher degree of precedent in all things. We will always ensure that our ‘in character’ activities will not flavor our ‘real world’ interactions, nor will we allow drama or conflicts from the ‘real world’ to flavor our ‘in character’ activities.
Rules Related to Character Names and In World Organizations.
Each user will either select a character name. When you choose a character name you must abide by the following guidelines as well as the rules of common decency. If the Dystopia Rising Network finds such a label to be offensive or improper, it may, in its sole and absolute discretion, change the name, remove the character name from our databases, and/or suspend or terminate membership or ability to attend events. In particular, you may not use any name:
(i) Belonging to another person with the intent to impersonate that person, including without limitation any other employee or agents of the Dystopia Rising Network;
(ii) That incorporates vulgar language or which are otherwise offensive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;
(iii) Subject to the rights of any other person or entity without written authorization from that person or entity;
(iv) That belongs wholly to a popular culture figure, celebrity, or media personality;
(v) That is a trademark or service mark, whether registered or not;
(vi) Taken from Dystopia Rising Network's published products, including character names from the Eschaton Media INC series of game materials and novels without expressed permission from Eschaton Media INC;
Rules Related to “forum" use and ‘member to member’ interactions at sponsored events.
Communicating with other Members and Dystopia Rising Network representatives, whether by text, voice or any other method, is an integral part of the Network and the Service and is referred to here as "Player Communication." Player Communication refers to interactions between two actual people instead of two “characters” registered to the Dystopia Rising Network. When engaging in Player Communication, you may not:
(i) Transmit or post any content or language which, in the sole and absolute discretion of Dystopia Rising Network, is deemed to be offensive, including without limitation content or language that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, hateful, sexually explicit, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable, nor may you use a misspelling or an alternative spelling to circumvent the content and language restrictions listed above;
(ii) Carry out any action with a disruptive effect, such as intentionally filling forums or communications boards with needless posts;
(iii) Communicate or post any user's personal information during an event, or on websites or forums related to the Network, except that a user may communicate his or her own personal information in a private means directed to a single user;
(iv) Harass, threaten, stalk, embarrass or cause distress, unwanted attention or discomfort to any members of the Network;
(v) Impersonate any real person, including without limitation any "game organizer" or any other Dystopia Rising Network agent or employee, nor may you communicate in the Network in any way designed to make others believe that your message constitutes a server message or was otherwise posted by any Dystopia Rising Network agent or employee.
(vi) Communicate content outlined by point B(i-v) via ‘in character means’ as a way to circumnavigate definition of “Player Communication”. Interactions that are deemed to have bled from Player to Player interaction to cause Character to Character interactions will be judged under the sole and absolute discretion of the Dystopia Rising Network and “Directors” representing individual chapters.
Membership verses Right to Refuse Service
Active membership does not guarantee entrance and involvement in Dystopia Rising LARP Network events. Each chapter operates as an independent business, and with that, reserves the right to refuse service to any individual. Being refused service by one chapter, and being restricted from using that chapters provided means of communication, does not designate an inability to utilize an individual’s membership. Attendance and membership in any number of other chapters is available. Membership in the Dystopia Rising LARP Network is required to attend chapter events, attendance to chapter events is not provided with membership.
